Feeling Guilty
Since I consider you all my unpaid counselors/psychiatrists :) I have another dilemma. Did any of you quit nursing soon after the baby was born? I'm still in pain and it's been 5 weeks. It's making me a grumpy mommy, so I've decided to stop pumping and go with formula and I'm feeling awfully guilty. But I might be able to finally cuddle and hold my boys without being in pain. Plus I'm scared Luke's going to start getting sick and infections. It's like a lose-lose situation. :(

So Sydney is six months and it still hurts occasionally for me. I would quit too, but formula is so expensive we can't afford it...plus the whole guilt thing. I guess I'm not much help.
My mom said to take it in increments. If you can nurse for two weeks, that's awesome for the baby. Then 2 month milestone, then six months.
As far as sickness goes, at least it's summertime, so he won't get RSV or anything like that.
All of my kids are formula fed babies. I tried nursing with all of them. I made it the longest with Kayla, but I would get infections a lot and I tried pumping and still got infections. I can't tell you how many times I would sit up at night and cry because my chest hurt so bad. My mom always told me that I shouldn't feel guilty for formula feeding my kids. I would rather be happy and enjoying my kids than crying and resenting them anytime they had to feed. Once I made the decision, I felt so much better. Here's some tips from a 3 time formula user: Sign up on any and every formula brands website. They will send you coupons and samples in the mail. The store brands are just as nice as the name brands. We used Costco's brand a lot because it was cheap and you could get it in bulk. I was never set on a specific brand. But Luke might respond differently to different formulas. When I give Kayla Gerber's Good Start, her pees and poops stink really bad! If he has a hard time with his poops being too hard, you can put a little bit of dark corn syrup in his bottles and it'll help to soften them. (Sorry to be descriptive). Enfamil tends to make kids a little more like that than Similac or Good Start.
If you need any more tips or just want someone to talk to, I am available! We are bumming at my parents house this week since we are between homes at the moment. Give me a call on my cell and we can chat. Really the best advice I can give you is to not feel guilty for stopping. The best thing that you get to enjoy your boys and he'll grow up and be just fine. Plus now Tristan can get up and do night feedings! :-)
