The day was February 25th. It was cold and snowy. I had come up skiing to Snowbird with John and his roommate Bryce Jenkins. It had been windy but we had still enjoyed a few runs. I was on the lift with John and Bryce. John was trying to gross Bryce out by kissing me. I started to tease him that he had kissed more girls than I had kissed boys. John said, "What really matters is that you are my world and you mean everything to me. I want to be with you forever and ever." He proceeds to pull a ring out of his pocket and he holds it between his two fingers and asks, "Emily, will you be my wife?" I was so surprised. I asked, "What is that?" It wasn't the ring that I had picked out. He said that it was just the diamond that was going to go into the band. He said that the band would have to be special ordered and would take up to 4 to 6 weeks. As he brings it closer to show it to me he drops the ring off the lift. He gasps. His roommate freaks out and I don't know what to do. I say, "Stop joking with me." His roommate Bryce gets after him for wearing gloves. They are both silent for what seemed forever. I don't know what to think. I don't know if I should believe them or not. John hits his glove on the lift over and over. Bryce continues to get after John. At this point I think maybe they are serious. Man, if this is real this is going to suck. I am going to have to look for my diamond in the snow. Who does that. We are never going to find it. Man that is so much money to lose in the snow. "Did you not think through this?" I say. "We need a metal detector." John is trying to deal with this loss with humor. That is how he normally handles things. We get to the top and I take off. I ski has fast has I can. I don't want more snow to get on that ring. The more time that goes by the more snow and people will have skied over it. I take off my skis and start searching. All I find in the white snow is pieces of pine tree. I am never going to find my diamond. "Emily" I look over and there is John on one knee with a little blue box and the ring that we had picked out. "Will you married me?" I swing my hand to hit him in the chest. "You jerk! Yes of course I will!" I tackle him to the ground and cover him in kisses and a few tears. I find out that he had hired a photographer to be there from Snowbird to cover the whole proposal. Bryce had a go pro video camera and had recorded our conversation on the lift (the memory card ran out just before the proposal). We went in the trees and had a photo shoot with the photographer. He had 2 dozen roses for me. We went into the lodge that was on the slopes and called our family. We kind of became celebrities. You don't usually see someone with two dozen roses at a ski lodge. People kept asking us questions and even one person took a picture of us. It was funny. I loved how he asked me. It was so funny and it will make Snowbird a special place for me.
